A Wild WWISE appears

First: Game Design Document WIP. I have more material but it’s offline. You can get to it as well from the main Ninefox VN page, along with:

The appendices are for my reference so I can keep track, but you’re welcome to peer at them. 🙂 The lopsidedness of “lots of random research” vs. “sparseness of actual design document” is typical of my process early-stage (in writing novels too).

Also, we may have decided on “lineart with tinted bits” as our art style for LAZINESS reasons. 🙂 I have to redo Cheris but I ran out of time.

My accomplishments today:

  • WWISE: installation, integration into the project. I still have to go through tutorials for orientation, which will be fun! I’ve messed with Fmod a long time ago but WWISE is new to me! I’ve registered my project and have been approved for an indie license! Next up: WWISE Lesson 1: Applying an Action and Naninovel: Overriding Built-in Services, for which I’ll have to dig into some C#. It turns out Naninovel has its own audio services but for learning purposes I’d like to use WWISE. I may later have to expose some of Naninovel’s code (e.g. menus) but let’s deal with one thing at a time. (I may be using a Wilhelm Scream as a placeholder audio file…)
  • Unity: added Scene Assistant for Naninovel, need to initialize.
  • Graphics: worked on placeholder background, completed a Better Sprite for Jedao (see above). Cheris is mostly there since she has Resting “What the f*** did you do now, Jedao?!” face.

I will say that having noodled at these character designs for over a decade is now saving me time, although they’ve…evolved from the initial sketches from 2012, when I started writing Ninefox and Suicide Hawk. Sam Kabo Ashwell told me very nicely that it sounded like they were superheroes who sucked at picking superhero names! 😀 I also swear I have been working on figure drawing…

Old, from 2012:

an old (2012) character sketch of Cheris
an old character sketch of Jedao (2012)

I still have that sketchbook! It teaches humility, or something.

Listen, why a VN? I need stress relief.

Yours in calendrical heresy,
